The Rosary

The Holy Rosary is one of the most beautiful prayers handed down to us through scripture and St Dominic. It is a prayer through the Mother of God which brings about much peace and grace.

While it is true that we, as Catholics, do not worship our Mother Mary, yet we must not allow ourselves to forget that she was given to us at the foot of the Cross of her Son Jesus. Mary always points to her Son, and tells us to “do whatever he tells us”.

Many promises have been made to those who recite the Holy Rosary, at Fatima, our Lady promised the children that many souls would be saved, down through time many have been consoled by this wonderful prayer. Sinners have been converted, the sick have been healed, families have found peace and those who had gone astray have found their way home.

It is with great joy that I outline the method of praying this great prayer. Pray this prayer with faith, hope and lots of love in your heart, and we then can cry out, ”Never was it know that anyone who fled to your protection was left unaided…” Yes Mary’s unique place in the plan of God is most powerful, it her dearest wish that we should be drawn to her Son.

The Holy Rosary consists of twenty mysteries, grouped in packages of five, called the Joyful Mysteries, the Sorrowful Mysteries, the Glorious Mysteries and the Luminous Mysteries. These mysteries coming to us from holy scripture give us a wonderful opportunity to meditate on the life, death, public life and resurrection of our Blessed Lord, and on the wonderful generosity of our Blessed Lady. These meditations can bring us into the amazing life and mystery of God’s plans for us, helping us in our day to day life and most particularly in those moments in life when we meet problems.

Let us not be slow to come to the source of grace which these sacred mysteries lead us. In the Rosary we use a rosary beads, this simply helps us to keep tabs on the prayers that we recite. This rosary beads is divided into our Father’s, Hail Mary’s and Glory be.

When we begin the rosary, the first thing we do is make the sign of the Cross, every thing we do should be done invoking the Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Next we proclaim the Apostle’s Creed.

Then we say one Our Father, three Hail Mary’s and a Glory be for the intention of our Holy Father the Pope.

Now, depending on the day of the week, we consider the first mystery, be it Glorious, Sorrowful, Joyful or Luminous. After a short meditation we then recite the Our Father, followed by ten Hail Mary’s and a Glory be. After the introduction of each of the five mysteries we repeat the meditation and the Our Father, ten Hail Mary’s and the Glory be.

It has also become traditional to repeat the prayer given to us from the apparitions of Fatima as follows; O my Jesus forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of your mercy. This prayer may be added after each Glory be.

When the full five mysteries have bee recited, we conclude with the Hail Holy Queen and the prayer; May the divine assistance remain always with us and may the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace Amen.

What a beautiful way to remember the Mysteries of Christ, recalling his time here on earth as Man, and through the Rosary thanking him for all He has, is and will do for us his sisters and brothers.

Faithfulness is one of the hall marks of our loving God, let us be faithful to him in as many ways as possible. Through our Faith, Hope and Love we bring Jesus to others, let us strengthen our resolute by praying the Rosary each and every day and offer it for the many who do not pray or thank God for his goodness.

Keep ever in mind that old but true saying; the family who prayers together, stays together, even though they be miles apart.

May we continue to pray for each other.
